Dennis Seager
Honorary Vice President & Outings/Visits

I was born in East London it was my home until 1950 when I finished secondary school education. After leaving school I joined the Merchant Navy Training School then the Royal Air Force in 1958. On leaving the Air Force I became a driver for London Transport, route 38A Chingford – Victoria, and the Grey Green Coaches.  In the 70s, starting as a Driver-Courier, I eventually moved on to be Manager of the Galleon World Travel then, with a business partner. I set up my own Euro Group Transport.  A second company was Anglo French Coachways and a third was Dover Supply Limited. I retired from travel industry in 1989. I had my first angina attack in 1993 followed by a mild heart attack in 1994 and needed hospital treatment and medical care. It was not easy for me to slow down after 40 years of constant high-pressure activity running my own business in London but, as I promised both my doctor and my wife, Presy, I am keeping my body in the "switched off" state. The following year John Kennedy, who was HeartCare's Chairman, invited me to join, which I did and was elected on to the committee in charge of Outings/Visits in 1996.

My role in HeartCare is to organise and operate the yearly programme of outings and events.  These are generally known as “HeartCare Adventures”, and are eight-day trips to Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and Spain; five-day trips to Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Holland, Germany, Valkenburg; and three-day weekend trips to Paris, Amsterdam, Belgium, London, Eden Project in Plymouth, Turkey & Tinsel in Torquay together with many more places in England.  We also have day trips to London theatre for musical shows, the Royal Albert Hall for Classical Spectacular and to Thursford's Christmas Spectacular.  An annual event is our Christmas party and luncheon every first Saturday in December. We also have a fund-raising Cabaret evening at the Burrage Centre.

It is all the organising that Presy and I enjoy. The greatest rewards are, not only in the actual organisation (although this does have its rewards), but also in the relationships we have with the members and friends. We especially look forward to the presence of our regulars and also for the first timers joining HeartCare adventures. They bring wholeness to one another and, together, we can welcome each other to a world far more decent and richer than when you are alone.
