In 1945 on the 6th day of August when America dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima in Japan and the world was celebrating the end of the Second World War, my parents had a more private celebration because I was born! I was Presita Cervantes Quilon in the Philippines during six years of Elementary School 1952-1958, and four years of High School 1958-1962, and then four years in College 1962-1966 graduating with a degree in Bachelor of Christian Education.
Commissioned by the Bishop as Deaconess of The United Methodist Church in the Philippines during my career years 1966-1973, I was awarded travel scholarships. First was an International Training Institute in Singapore in 1969. In 1971 was a Crusade Scholarship which entailed a four months observation of student-community-social work in Singapore, West Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. This time while in Singapore, I met Peter Baskett, an Englishman and we got married in 1972 in the Philippines. I left the Philippines in 1973 to live abroad where Peter had job contracts in the oil industry in Singapore, then to Scotland, in Algeria, in London, in Norway, and lastly in Sarawak of East Malaysia.
When Peter lost his battle against cancer in 1985 with a nine year old son, Wilson, I moved from London to Oulton Broad, where I met Dennis Seager who had his own travel business. I went home to the Philippines with Dennis for my parents' golden anniversary in 1998 and in 1992 we got married in California. Since 1996 when Dennis was voted to HeartCare Committee for outings and events, I remain in the background helping him in the yearly programme. At the AGM in October 2006, I was voted to the committee as the outings and events coordinator. Dennis and I present a yearly programme, and together we operate and go on every coach trip whether a day trip, and weekend breaks in the UK; four days to eight days in Europe.
