My Date with 'Angie' and its Consequence

This is a very pleasant room, overlooking the lake. As usual in a setting like this, there were a great many geese of different varieties. Whilst I was in there a young chap came in and it turned out that he had had his “Angie” yesterday and he was waiting to go home to Norwich. He spoke very highly of Papworth and the staff.

About 09.20 a nurse came for me and took me to my room, number 44. She would not let me carry my bag, talk about luxury. These are all individual rooms with a bed, locker and the usual things one finds in a hospital. Each room overlooks the grounds and the lake.

My named nurse, Sue, asked if I had any questions and my first question was, “when was I likely to be able to eat?” (surprise, surprise). She went to see what time I was due to have “Angie” and I was to be the third in the afternoon. That meant that I could have a cuppa and a couple of biscuits - it was now about 09.30.
